It depends on the reels and if they have bars across which you can clip on to, If not you'll have to make a sling to go round the rod handle but probably better to buy a reel with lugs if you think you may catch a fish big enough to need them. Personally I've had fish around 100lb on my Accurates and Daiwa LD's and they don't have lugs.
